Who is Tatum?
Tatum Owens is currently an Advocacy and Development Coordinator for Progress Texas. In this role, she will be moving forward with our advocacy team duties that have involved rapid-response messaging and actions, along with coalition building efforts with voting rights, climate and reproductive justice, and progressive organizations and organizers. With this new position, she will also be tackling more development and fundraising duties: a vital task for nonprofit teams during this crucial crunch time nationally.

Tatum is a 2023 Political Communications graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, known for her work with the Texas Freedom Network’s nonprofit program, Texas Rising, as a community organizer and leader of their UT Austin chapter. She also served on the City of Austin’s College Student Commission as its Vice Chair. There, her team allocated $50,000 of funding for college student food access, while she also volunteered with Meals on Wheels in her free time. Her passions in advocacy include, but are not limited to, direct aid like affordable and healthy food access, voting rights, and civic engagement to create progressive change in Texas.
Fun facts:
- Reader whose favorite books include “Goodbye, Again” by Jonny Sun, "Grocery" by Michael Ruhlman, and "There are No Accidents" by Jessie Singer, plus podcasts like "Normal Gossip."
- From San Antonio, but lives with her cat, Craig, in College Station.
- Can only remember catching one fish ever, it was a toadfish and it was ugly.
